Android Phone cannot work with Wifly?

Hi

After I set the Wifly RN-XV 171 into ad hoc mode, my laptop, iPhone can detect the Wifly-GSX-xx network but my Samsung Glexy Note LTE cannot detect the Wifly Wifi.

Anybody are having same problem? Maybe Wifly module did not support android phone or at least Samsung smartphone?

Regards

yea i had the same problem. Android hardware can detect it but in software they filter out all ad-hoc networks for some reason. Only way to get your phone to detect it is to root your phone and change some of the files to detect ad-hoc networks. I believe the main file is wpa_supplicant. There are many tutorials on how to do this but most dont work very well which is a shame.

Roving Networks has a new verions of firmware (2.45) that addresses that issue by adding an Access Point mode to the WiFly. From their manual:

AP mode provides several advantages over ad hoc mode. In AP mode:

• The module creates a soft AP network to which Android devices (smartphones and tablets) can join. (Android

devices do not support ad hoc networking.)
