Have to agree. Go the stencil route unless the board is small and no fine pitch.
I recently switched to stencil use when I had a PCB with 0.5 pitch connector and some 20 pin QFN devices on it. Worked first time and so did the other 2 boards I did.

Won’t be going back to the pneumatic tools again.
Dave…
Count me in for stencils too. Oharallp or something like that, does a 8.5x11" sheet for 25$ + shipping. This, combined with a tub of solder paste and a business card, I can not only cover every SMD pad on my board in about 30 seconds, but then stick it in my toaster and cook it for a few mintutes…Instant finished board. It is so fast, what used to take me hours to older by hand now is done in about 2 minutes in my toaster. I’ll never go back.
Thats the one. Thanks for posting the link. I’ve done 4 stencils so far from this place and I am completely satisfied by the results. My recommendation, you get 8.5x11" for 25$+shipping, so fit as many designs as you can on that sheet to maximize your value. They ship them cut with a 1/2-1" border around each one.
