Arduino Bootloader Questions

I purchased a couple of ATMega 328s with the Arduino boot loader:

They take programs fine, but they lack the “flash three times on reset” and the “flicker on program load” features.

Were these features removed on purpose?

What board are you plugging them into to program them?

I think the arduino has a led on the board to begin with.

He said he has an ATMega328 with the arduino bootloader, not an arduino board.
