Arduino Uno and Colour LCD Shield LCD-09363

Hi All,

I am relatively new at Arduino but i thought I would have a crack at this colour LCD Shield http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9363. I have a brand new Arduino Uno and I soldered some pins onto the LCD shield and connected the shield to the Arduino. I noticed that the back light does not come on. I check the voltages on the 3v3 and 5v pads on the shield and I can see that they are 3.28 and 4.82 respectively. I am not sure if that 4.82v should be higher but I did try switching from USB to a plug pack to see if the extra power of the plug pack would help. No difference. The LCD does appear to work with out the back light. I used the sketch from http://www.avr-developers.com/sparkfunlcd/ and with a torch, I can see it print the SparkFun logo to the screen.

The other observation I made is there are a set of what I think are SMD resistors which between the LCD and the 8 pin IC. They get very, very hot. You can’t even touch them they are so hot. That doesn’t strike me as a good thing.

Has anyone had this problem and managed to solve it? Or can any one offer me some suggestions as to what I could do to troubleshoot this some more?

Thanks!

Just shortcut for 1 sec the Vcc Power 5V with R4 27*

you must do every time you plug the USB or Power
