Arduino vs. Arduino Compatible

there’s a new brand of Arduino Compatible products in town called OSEPP. Has anyone used their products yet? How is it?

It appears to be at all Fry’s Electronics locations. It’s about time Fry’s got into the game!

That seems particularly sleazy of Fry’s…

(of course, it’s not real clear which of the many clone vendors “give back” to the arduino team and community (Sparkfun and Adafruits are clear winners, I think), but I’ve never heard of OSEPP before.)

I recommend to those who shop at Frys to let them know if you are disappointed in their decision to sell clones rather than the real thing, for the same price even. I know I will be purchasing any Arduino’s locally from Microcenter which sells Sparkfun products (the Arduino;'s are not clones).

Just a thought.

I’m surprised to find a thread about osepp(?) in here. I blew my Uno last night (note to self: must use reverse-current protection, must use reverse-current protection!), and wanted another one right away so I hopped over to Fry’s to see if they carried any. Surprisingly they did, but it wasn’t the official Uno, it was a clone made by osepp. I was hesitant, but picked it up anyway because it was convenient. So far so good. Not too sure about the company, but I like the black PCB of the board.

That seems particularly sleazy of Fry’s.

BTW, this is apparently the Fry's business model, according to a newspaper article I read some time ago. "Buy off-brand items (or lesser known brands) that provide a larger profit margin for Fry's, without impacting the end consumer price (or even with an advantageous consumer price, compared to big brands.)"

Fry’s, it appears to me with two stores in my town… is in big trouble judging by the dramatic reduction in the number of cashiers and length of check-out line in the last year. Newegg and Amazon, I suspect, are very formidable and have far less overhead.
