AT8xC51SND2C All-in-one MP3 Chip

Anyone considered bringing in the all-in-one chip from this link: http://www.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch … 39&Site=US?

From what I can tell it’s basically an all-in-one MP3 playing chip, with mp3 decoder, DAC, as well as USB and memory interfaces. I ran across this because I wanted to use your MP3 decoding chip to make a mp3 player with onboard flash, but it seems that interfacing to NAND memory with a uC is not trivial. This chip would handle pretty much everything in one really compact package. I could make my own iPod nano.

It’s cheap and available in single quantities, but it’s a 100-pin BGA package. Seems perfect for a dev board or a breakout board. I’m gutsy when it comes to soldering tiny things, but testing each of those 100 leads for a short sounds pretty unpleasant. :?

I clicked on the link, but it didn’t return any results. Message that I got is:

I forgot that you can’t link to thing son digikey. here is the link directly from atmel. http://www.atmel.com/dyn/products/produ … rt_id=3526

Wow what an interesting chip - It has just about every feature under the sun - and can be programmed directly from USB or serial. Pity it’s over $20 in single quantities. Also the fact that it comes in the very hobbyist unfriendly BGA package is a bit of a downer - though no surprise of course as they seem to be targeting the mobile market.
