Hello - I’m considering getting an AVR-GSM. Has anyone here used them and can provide a quick review - good? bad? great?!

I have a couple of questions. I don’t know how to connect these cellular modules to my cell phone carrier. I use sprint currently and is this like adding another phone? I expect if I call them and tell them I want to add one of these boards to my account, their head will exploded. How do I do it?

Also, has anyone ever connected an external antenna to the AVR GSM? I think I would need to as the on board antennna doesn’t look too powerful!

Finally, I’ve never done any work on Atmega boards before so I assume there are some dev tools I would need to get up an running on this?

I have not used the board, but have looked into them a bit. As far as I understand, you just slide your SIM card in and go. I believe some carriers don’t use SIM cards, so you might want to check that you have one.

As far as programming, it looks like that board has a JTAG connector on it, so you’ll need a JTAG programmer like one of these:
