Hi,

I’m not getting how the AVR-P20B works. Do I need just a cable to connect it to my computer using the serial port or do I need another dongle?

This board is what you would call a target board. The AVR micro still needs programming.

For this board, any programmer that has an ICSP connector should do the trick. These can be driven from Parallel, Serial or USB ports.

USB is the most common these days.

I’d get an Atmel Dragon. I gives you programming and in-circuit debugging, which is very useful.
