No Serial/Parallel Port help and solutions

My computer does not have a serial or parallel port. I want to do some AVR development, starting with some of the Sparkfun tutorials. I have found some possible solutions.

PCIe Card:

Sewell Part Number: SW-6577

USB:

Sewell Part Number: SW-1301

Sewell Part Number: SW-4518

Does anyone have any input or solutions to this problem?

-Thanks in advance!

Don’t buy a USB<->Serial converter then try to use it with an AVRISP

Go for a native USB programmer like the USBtinyISP

+1 to TrialEx.

Get the USB avr interface he linked.

Get a USB-Serial adapter.

Most products will be 9pin serial or usb. A few (like Futurlec products) have a 9pin to 4/5pin polarized connector style. These are easily made.

Get an Atmel AVR Dragon and you can debug your code, as well as programming the chips.

They are currently out of the recommended product. Would this one work for the embedded tutorials?
