Can this AVR STK Serial Port Dongle Programmer work well with laptop serial port? I bought one ICSP fro PIC. It can’t work with laptop serial port. Will it be the same? If not, can I connect 5V external source to it. Thanks.

It should work out of the box. test teh port with some thing else, otherwise use a usb to serial converter and run it off a powered usb port.
I would not go near messing with adding power other than directly to the dev board.

Hi!
Does anyone use this AVR-PG1B programmer from Olimex? I have
problem in detecting device. I am using it from my laptop. When I
measure the Vcc pin, there is no voltage coming up. Is it because the
laptop can’t provide enough power from serial? Thanks
