AVR-USB-JTAG + Butterfly -> "no valid JTAG ID"

I’ve just received the Butterfly and the Olimex AVR-USB-JTAG.

Butterfly is loaded with the std. program and works. Added JTAG header on the correct (bottom) side. Connected pin 4 and 7 for JTAG power.

(led on USB-JTAG is on)

Connected USB Jtag and serial driver installed (set to COM2)

Installed AVR Studio 4 and the update.

AVR detected the version and updated the USB-JTAG

Copy pasted a sample program, hit the “start debug” and the only thing I get is “The OCD JTAG adapter was detected but the target device did not return a valid JTAG ID”

I’ve tried with the Butterfly on or off etc but always the same message.

Also searched and found more people with the same error but didn’t find a solution.

Any ideas, tips , hints ?

hello

i am sorry for my bad english .

1-what is your ic ? is it suported jtag ?

( for ex: atmega32 suport jtag but atmega8 no )

2-is jtag enable fuse bit programmed ?

(chek with a programmer )

if you use pc5 , pc4 , pc3 and pc2 io ports and these are worked , jtag function is disable .

I found a remark in the docs that for serial programming the joystick has to be pushed down. So I tried it and it works with JTAG to…

If I push down the joystick I can flash / debug etc. !
