I am new to this GPS/GNSS topic but catch on quick. I am heading in the direction of constructing a setup that will allow me to perform bathymetric measurements and later as topographic renders. I am studying this topic in depth online but this Sparkfun equipment is what I intend to use for the GPS side of things. We are being held to strict criteria by the Corps of Engineers for our marina and dredging as far as depth and reporting. ANY insight would be appreciated. I’ll work as hard as I have to gain this knowledge but if anyone has actually constructed this style of assembly I would be grateful for the knowledge. Thankx
For USACE, you will need to know which volume calculation method they want.
The required method will direct you to equipment selection and the field work for data collection.
There are various levels of commercial products, or you can certainly build your own.
The GNSS is the easiest part of the hardware.
Infact, the actual data collection isn’t hard to accomplish.
The snag comes with data validation and integrity.
You should think of the project as an ongoing real Professional Survey, with QA/QC in order to document your results. That gets very tricky for hydrographic surveys without conventional surveying experience, but certainly not impossible.
