Beginner - New RTK Rover/Base setup

Hello, I read the tutorials and documentation on the Sparkfun website and layed out a plan to set up an RTK Rover and Base system, for surveying purposes.

I write here in the forum to get some feedback about my understanding of the system and planning of the connections. The idea is to buy two of the f9p modules (obviously):

https://www.sparkfun.com/products/15136

and also, for both rover and base:

https://www.sparkfun.com/products/17751 - GNSS Multiband antenna

https://www.sparkfun.com/products/13975 - Redboard standard

https://www.sparkfun.com/products/16398 - 20x4 LCD

https://www.sparkfun.com/products/retired/12580 - Bluetooth module

https://www.sparkfun.com/products/18074 - Lora Gateway

and the necessary Qwiic cables.

The wiring I planned is as following:

Connect the Redboard to the F9P breakout via one Qwiic connector and the F9P to the LCD via the other Qwiic.

According to the specs, the F9P-RTK2 has two more UART ports, that I planned to connect to:

  • A LoRa gateway to send/recieve RTCM correction data between rover and base

  • A Bluetooth module to interface with PC or smartphone (for example with SW Maps for surveying and with U-Center for config)

My question are: are the UART1 and UART2 ports on the F9P suitable for such connections?

If not what is a suitable alternative?

What is the difference between using the “Serial Telemetry Radio Kit” (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/17255) and the

LoRa Gateway to transmit RTCM data?

Thanks in advance

Matteo

Hi Matteo,

I am curious to know, how did you ultimately make out with the above system? I am looking at building something similar, albeit with slightly different components.

Were you able to successfully transmit RTCM data over LoRa? Did you end up needing to pack/unpack the RTCM data in the base/rover?

Cheers,

Adam
