beginner question about GM862 modules...

Hello,

I have a doubt about the these GSM modules.

I am wondering if there is a way to establish a DIRECT point-to-point

connection between two modules, but without roaming into any gsm provider network…(?)

There probably isn’t. I’m not familiar with these modules actually, but normally a cell phone (or module that’s acting like a cell phone) needs the tower to tell it what frequencies, time slots, etc. to use. I don’t think there’s any equivalent to the “ad-hoc” network mode that 802.11 cards (for example) can use.

No direct connection possible as far as I know. You’ve got to have a SIM and you’ve got to bounce off the cell towers.
