Bluetooth modules (RN-41 etc) give fine results but are costly to integrate into a product. Is anyone willing to share their experience starting from a module in a prototype, then integrating the Bluetooth chips and antenna onto their own PCB?
I ask here because it looks like SparkFun did just this with their own module (WRL-08474) but I can no longer find that module for sale. If there are any technical or legal issues to watch out for, I would love to know more.
if you buy from roving networks and buy in bulk they might be cheaper ( my guessis between $15 to $25) , have you tried this avenue?
else you can buy similar modules from far-east (not the same AT command controli guess) for about $10
teekay–thanks. I’ve been looking at Roving Networks in larger quantity. Yes–the price drops to a decent level and at pretty small volumes (100s). Your far-east price still beats what I have seen.
For very high volume products like cellphones you find the BT chips, antenna and resistors/caps all on the main board aside the other chips. This gets the price and footprint much lower, yay–but I wonder how much time and trouble it takes to get everything working.
