BlueSMiRF vs Raytac for wireless UART

Hey,

I’m looking for a wireless UART bridge for my next project, specifically for remote programming - my project will be buried in a dashboard and I’d like the option to update software without removing it. I just need to be able to connect my laptop via bluetooth and talk to the arduino over a serial port. It seems like the BlueSMiRF might be overkill for what I want, and something like one of the Raytac modules would work. Am I understanding this correctly? Anything gotchas I’m missing?

You’ve got it right! The Bluesmirf is what I’d suggest, as it already has the relevant circuitry broken-out to useful PTH pins…no gotchas, other than you’ll need a serial to usb converter to program the board;-) See 2 styles below:
CH340
Or
any of the FTDI versions
