It seems like there are a ton of inexpensive video cameras out there that spit out NTSC but not alot of off-the-shelf gadgets that’ll digitize it for me so that I can get the signal into my gumstix. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen someone on the gumstix list bemoaning the difficulty of finding an easily-integratable camera. I think a breakout board with an ADV7181B Video decoder or its ilk would be very helpful! Better yet, a combo board that takes NTSC in and spits out I2C (or SPI?)!!! (ok, maybe I’m being lazy, but one can dream).
Its a little expensive, $150, but its a working solution. Sparkfun could probably duplicate and improve on their product and sell it at a lower price to boot.
How about a simple device which will decode 1 video stream? It should be less complex than than the posted 4 input decoder ($150). Is anyone intersted in something like this?
Don’t most of these camera’s start with some kind of native digital format that is then converted to the analog video stream?
Why can’t I seem to find a camera that just gives me the digital format so that I can process the data like I want. Seems like that would be a huge hit of a product in the hobby mcu market.
