A while a go I reverse-engineered the ipod video LCD interface- info at
http://electricstuff.co.uk/ipodlcd.html, but found that the connector was made of unobtanium in small quantities.
Although I didn’t identify the controller, I have identified the initialisation sequence and commands to write rectangular data areas in a similar fashion to the Nokia one, so it is entirely useable.
As these displays are available cheaply (about $15 on ebay), and size & quality is excellent, they would be a great upgrade from the little Nokia style displays.
What would be good is a source of a connector+ breakout, with the option of a couple of 74HC164’s to turn the 16 bit parallel interface into SPI to reduce the pin count. Maybe also an 8 bit latch to allow drive from an 8 bit parallel port for higher speeds ( see suggestions at bottom of my page).
