Broke Sphero advanced autonomous top plate

While trying to assemble the Sphero advanced autonomous kit ( [KIT-15303), I broke three of the small self-tapping screws trying to install the servo horn and broke the top plate trying to get one out.

I have two questions:

  1. Is there something I’m missing about how to install this without breaking the screws?
