BTM0-182 talking to a cell phone?

Has anyone succeeded in getting a BTM-182 to work with a cell phone? (Android device)

The docs are rather sparse in useful information about using the unit.

Like, what is the Button Input for?

What are the flash patterns for the LED outputs?

How do you tell it to be discoverable?

I am trying this myself right now, using the sparkfun BTM-182 breakout board. I connected its VCC to 3.3V, GND to GND, reset to VCC through 10k R (not sure that’s absolutely necessary). It became automatically discoverable (named “Serial Adaptor”) and I paired my HTC EVO 4G with it (PIN 1234).

Now I’m trying to interface it serially to a 5V AVR. I added a resistor divider to drop 5V down to about 3V in the AVR TX ->BTM RX direction.

The BTM → AVR direction reads ~1.43V and so I’m assuming it isn’t working. I saw a post from somebody else reporting this problem but

I am not sure what is causing it yet. Hopefully it’s not by design due to a ~1.5V IC on the module, 1.5V is way below Vih for a 5V AVR.

I was expecting a 3.3V drive from the BTM.

HTH. If you find out anything else about this module let me know!
