Bus Pirate busted?

Hi, I have an issue with my new Bus Pirate v3.6a - the USB device is not recognized. Seems like the FTDI chip is failing. I have other FTDI devices that work fine. Things I tried:

  • - Different USB cables that work correctly with other devices
  • - Different USB ports
  • - Connecting directly or through a powered USB hub
  • - Win10, Win7, Linux
  • - Different machines
  • - Older FTDI drivers
  • Anything else i could try?

Windows says that the USB device malfunctioned, unknown device. From Linux, I get the following in dmesg:

    [ 1047.129230] usb 4-1: new full-speed USB device number 6 using uhci_hcd
    [ 1047.265233] usb 4-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71

You’ve gone through all the steps we would have had you take, it does look like a bad FTDI. :frowning:

Just fill in the RMA request form at the link below with your SparkFun order number and a link to this forum post and we can help.

Thanks! Sorry, I can't find the RMA link.

I bought the item from an online dealer, kjdelectronics, who referred me here for the warranty support. How does this complicate the RMA process?

I totally forgot to put the link in, sorry about that! (I have a case of Friday-itis!)

Since you bought from a distributor of ours we can’t issue a RMA but if you contact the distributor and let them know we authorize a replacement they will take care of you. If they need any proof, just link them to this forum post and that will be enough.
