I received a letter today in the mail explaining that CadSoft had been sold. Did anyone else get this letter? I wonder what that will mean for EagleCAD features, pricing, ect?
Bingo: [“Premier Farnell acquires CadSoft”
Hmmm. EAGLE licenses from Farnell…](CADSoft Finanzportal - CADSoft Finanzportal)
Kind of old news now, weird that you just got the letter though.
I was surprised to get a real letter in the mail, but the news was “old” by then.

Ah, I just noticed that the letter was sent to my old address and it had to go through mail forwarding to get to me. A second look at the envelope showed a yellow forwarding sticker from the USPS.
Still, its NEW news to me
I have a trade account with farnell, and in the latest magazine they sent out they are selling EAGLE licenses, its £35 for the usually free LIGHT edition.
Interestingly, they are still selling Number One Systems’ Easy-PC.

I wonder if they will be implementing a 1 click order system to export the parts required into an order list, would be much easier than using farnells useless search system.

No, the free version has always been called the “Freeware” version.
The “Light” version has exactly the same specs as the Freeware version (1 schematic sheet, 2 signal layers, 100x80mm routing area), but it can be used commercially.
Here’s the old US pricing http://cadsoft.de/prices.htm
They will probably integrate it into their element 14 thing.
There’s always FreePCB, worked fairly well for my last project though the routing isn’t as smart as it needs to be and often has far too many failed traces. The routing is a separate program so I can’t fault FreePCB for that.
