Hi All,
I’m in the process of repairing a ULS PLS 6.60 laser cutter. Making a VERY long story very short: I dropped in a new CPU board, stepper motor (y axis), and Y driver board. I accidentally left the stepper motor disconnected when I powered up the machine. When I did so, I could immediately see that something was arcing, as the display panel and other lights started surging on and off. I shut the machine down and pulled the power within a couple of seconds, but could smell ozone in the vicinity of the driver card on the CPU board when I opened it up.
It’s possible whatever is arcing is the source of the original problem I was trying to fix, however after I discovered that the motor was unplugged, I wanted to get an opinion as to whether that could be the current (hah!) issue before I put it back together and try again. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? I’m a bit out of my depth on this one.
Thanks so much for your help! It is sincerely appreciated.
Cheers,
Bill
P.S. The tech support from ULS has been outstanding, but the guy I’ve been working with is going on vacation this week, and I really need to get this solved if possible sooner than his return.
