Can I remove the wire antenna from an Xbee Pro 900HP and solder on an SMA connector for antenna?

I am a grad student and got myself in a bit of a bind. A project has changed and I now need to attach an external antenna to a number of Xbee units, however, the ones I have are the wire antenna version. I would very much like to not have to spend another couple hundred dollars buying more Xbees with SMA connectors so I was wondering If I would be able to solder a connector onto the existing pads on the board or if there was something to do with the way it is set up that will prevent this from working.

I can’t say for sure, but it should work. Double check there’s continuity between the existing wire antenna and the pad for the SMA connector first though, there’s a possibility a jumper might be needed somewhere to connect the pads to the XBee.
