I am attempting to find out the vibration characteristics of a wing in a wind tunnel. I want to put a proximity sensor about 0.5m away from the wing, and observe the deflection and vibration of the wing (around 0.5cm accuracy). Refresh rate to be preferably at least 10 times per second (10 Hz). Does this product meet my criteria?
Not sure what does “resolution = 5mm” mean on the page. Can anyone help in this?
Resolution means that the sensor can differentiate movements in roughly 5mm increments. You’re probably going to need a sensor that has a resolution at least 10 times the accuracy you’re looking for to get somewhat useful results.
I’m afraid I’m not sure any of the sensors we carry would be that accurate in your situation without some testing. You might try the [VL53L1X but you’d need to do some experimenting to see if it’s accurate enough for your application. The data sheet doesn’t give too much information on accuracy and no information on resolution, but if anything we carry works, this would probably be it.](SparkFun Distance Sensor Breakout - 4 Meter, VL53L1X (Qwiic) - SEN-14722 - SparkFun Electronics)
