Measuring fast moving object distance in tube

Hi,

I need some sensor to measure distance of fast moving object inside the tube. The tube has 2, 3 or 4 meters.

Can someone recommand me what would be the best sensor solution for such a project?

Im currently using TFmini Plus LiDAR sensor. And within the tube it measures fine till lets say 1,5m and than it returns wrong numbers. I presume it is because ROI (region of interest) or FoV (field of view) and roughly around the 1,5m it hits the sides of the tube instead of the object.

But Im total amateur in this field so I dont know if my presumption is right.

Or maybe it can be narrowed somehow (with optic?).

I also am trying to select a directional sensor that detects small rapid movements in a short distance (<= 1-meter). I need it to have fine resolution and be fast if possible. Does something like this exist?

Thank you. :geek:

Is the thing you’re trying to detect tethered? For one meter, you’re probably looking at [a linear encoder. If it were shorter, [an LVDT might work.](Linear variable differential transformer - Wikipedia)](Linear encoder - Wikipedia)

for me it could be tethered.

It looks like the Linear Encoder will be perfect for me. The one I found will go up to 550 mm with super fine resolution. Thank you very much.
