I’m not getting any characters on the LCD, all I get is a dark screen with the back LED on. At first I would get some kind of wave length light pattern but now I get nothing at all. I change the wires around to see if that was the issue but unsuccessful so far, I have also checked the solder but I think is ok. Still trying different things, but any help is welcome.
Looks like your potentiometer isn’t connected to power and ground since it’s on a separate breadboard.
Try jumpering the power buses on both breadboards together and then adjusting the contrast potentiometer.

Oh sorry I missed that, but I still get don’t get any characters
Your contrast is set too low, you need to adjust the potentiometer until the white boxes just about disappear.
You could also have a code or connection issue. Give the code and connections [in this guide a try.

Ok I’ll try it out
I followed the guide, I got new wires, I slowly moved around the potentiometer but still nothing. Could it be that the LCD might be defective?
The links below are images of the results I’m getting

Yeah, something definitely looks wrong with the display.
Can I get your SparkFun order/invoice number?
