CHOOSING THE RIGHT SERVO. I HAVE AN ARTEMIS REDBOARD, AND WANT TO BUY A LIDAR-LITE V3HP?

Hi,

i might be rambling/vague/too general here. It’s because I want to be flexible in the future.

First, I’m familiar with Actobotics products. Have several of their U-Channels.

I’m thinking of 2 different but similar applications.

1 - LIDAR

2- Webcam

I do know I want to do pan-tilt for the webcam. Since Ive never used LIDAR, dont know if I need pan/tilt for that.

I was looking at how some Actobotics channels are used with a servo, to pan the LIDAR. I want to do that.

What would be a good servo that could work in both applications and fit into the channels (although pan+tilt is different I imagine)

My cameras arent heavy… just some Logitech w/USB cables

Also, any tips (or links to instructions) how to do all that…

Essentially : Artemis Redboard → servo(s)

Artemis Redboard → LIDAR

For power available, I have : 12V SLA, and a 15A 5V stepdown regulator

any tips much appreciated.

thank you

I think most Actobotics parts that use servos use a “standard size” servo rather than a micro, mini or large/giant sized servo but there may be adapters for those as well.

A standard sized servo would work fine for a Lidar Lite or a small camera and would fit inside an Actobotics channel. Actobotics even has a [pan tilt kit that might work for you.

For using servos with any Arduino type board, Arduino has a [nice guide here you should check out. That code should work just fine with Artemis.

While we haven’t tried the Lidar Lite on a Artemis, i would imagine that the code in our [hookup guide would work just fine. It might be a good idea to start out with an Uno though and move over to Artemis once you’re comfortable with both servos and the Lidar Lite.](LIDAR-Lite v3 Hookup Guide - SparkFun Learn)](Servo - Arduino Reference)](SPT200 Pan & Tilt Kit - ServoCity®)
