Confused about the state of I2C support for lightning sensor

On the page https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/sp … 0#spi-only

Sparkfun says:

SparkFun does not actively support I2C on this product due to the inconsistency of its’ implementation by its’ manufacturer AMS and their lack of active support of the product.

But the Qwiic AS3935 Lightning Detector which appears to use the same chip does appear to support I2C (since that’s what Qwiic is).

So I’m a little confused about the state of I2C support for the as3935 based lightning detectors.

Can Sparkfun provide a (lightning) flash of clarity for me?

There is currently no I2C support for the lightning sensor and we only carry the SPI version now.

You can try the [old hookup guide for the Qwiic version if you want to give it a try, but we’ve found that the I2C core libraries for Arduino will eventually have trouble communicating with the AS3935 via I2C and the board will stop responding.](https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/sparkfun-qwiic-as3935-lightning-detector-hookup-guide)

The “Qwiic AS3935 Lightning Detector” product page at https://www.sparkfun.com/products/15057 appears to be a current product has no mention of the SPI restriction and that would preclude use of the (I2C) Qwiic connector that’s in the product name. I understand this is in your SparkX experimental product category, but shouldn’t it then have the same warning?

Hi sprior.

Yeah, it probably should have something and I’ll put in a request to get that added onto the page.
