Copernicus Fix???

ohararp:
Just got the dip copernicus module in the mail and thouht I would test things out on the breadboard. I am using a cp2101 from dontronics to get usb power and serial connection to the pc. Seems no matter what I do I can’t get any other data than:

$GPGGA,,,,,,0,00,,,,,,,*66

$GPVTG,N*30

I had a similar problem when using the EM406 and was wondering if anyone else had experienced this problem.

Has anyone used the [http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/produc ... ts_id=8145](http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=8145) breakout board and gotten a gps fix? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi. I have the same problem. Did you find the solution? can you please give me you schematic?

Thanks a lot

Dave, I ditched the copernicus in favor of SIRF 3 products. Availability was a big concern when I was testing these devices out.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Can you confirm if your gps receiver copernicus did work? what is youf schematic… what 3.3 V interface did you used?

I used the Copernicus Evaluation Board - RS232 schematic, and the Copernicus Monitor. With these, the response was the same as yours.

But, in status info on software, this indicates the GPS Receiver “needs initialization”. Do you know what it means?

Best regards, and thanks for your help

ohararp, please, what antenna is that in picture above?

I purchased that antenna (in picture) in spark fun (i supose is SFE for you?) with the name “$11.95 Antenna GPS Embedded SMA”. Its description is in this link http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/produc … cts_id=177

What is the antenna you call “v-torch”… thanks again

Man, Thank you very much.

One more favor, can you please give the schematic did you use with that antenna+copernicus?

Best Regards… and happy holidays.

Dave I just connected the antenna directly to the copernicus pcb socket provided by SFE. Nothing special.
