I’ve been struggling to figure out how to create a new part based on an old part in a library. Specifically, I’d like to create a ZXSC310 from the ZXSC300 in the eagle zetex library. This should involve simply copying the 300, changing the name to the 310 and then adding the new STDN pin, but I cant seem to figure out how to make it copy. Thanks in advance for any help.
I never figured out how to clone a part (it ought to be easy).
So, I use copy/paste on the symbol and, if needed, package. It gives you a starting point but you do have reconnect pins to pads.
I asked Nathan (SFE) this question during the Eagle PCB layout class. I could never figure out how to copy and paste a library part, so I often ended up recreating parts (which was a colossal waste of time.)
Like many things in Eagle, the answer is non-obvious. You have use ‘cut’ - the ‘Scissors’ icon and paste.
During class, Nathan cut a 1x10 2mm header and made a new part with a quick two-paste operation. With that, he did in 30 seconds what it took me 20 minutes to recreate.
I really need to do a screencast of that little operation sometime because it’s a sticking point in Eagle.
