Developing automated plant watering system.

This is my first topic on this or any forum. Thought I’d give it a go. So I started my first ever herb garden off the kitchen on the deck railings. I don’t know if ya know this … but plants need to be watered. Now having worked in the electronics and computer industry for over 35 years … ya think I put together something.

I have buying stuff from Sparkfun for a long time. They are cool and now that I live a few miles from them all the better. Ok … what are the project parts:

  1. Redboard Edge - provides all control, interface and sensor stuff. BTW I think R.e.d stands for Real Easy Development.

  2. Qwiic Quad Relay board - control 4 values or pumps.

  3. Soil Moisture probes - 4 of them = 4 places to measure.

  4. Some #4 standoffs, nuts and bolts.

  5. Some Qwiic cables

  6. Decided to use 4 small fountain pumps instead of values … put them in a 5 gallon bucket. Very little plumbing … one plastic hose for each.

That’s the picture so far … later post to show progress.

Hi srozanski and thanks for posting,

That’s a great idea and we’d love to hear how it works out. Let us know if you run into any issues or have any other questions about the SparkFun products you are using in your project and we would be happy to help.
