DIY Reflow

Can anyone recommend a solder paste? (From UK shop, Farnell?)

The two I bought off eBay must be out of date or something, they just leave a powdery mess. I’d like to try some surface mount components on my next project.

If you want cheap, Dealextreme (Hong Kong) has it for $3.57 with free shipping.

Some of the reviewers reported they needed to add some flux to make it workable, but I stenciled a number of boards with no problem.

RS, Farnell and Rapid Electronics stock it.

Thanks.

I know RS and Farnell sell it, but I wanted to know which was the best to try. I’ll Try the DX stuff, will also get some flux at the same time. I think the ones I bought of ebay must be old, perhaps adding new flux may make it usable again.

I use Warton Metals solder paste, it’s sold by Rapid Electronics. It works very well for me.

Hi, a bit late as I’ve only just joined the forums. But you will see from my website at http://edeca.net/wp/2010/05/cooking-wit … smd-board/ that I ordered some boards from BatchPCB and then did DIY reflow in a frying pan.

Paste was from Farnell, links in the article.

Hope that helps.
