Stupid question, I suppose, but…
I’ve started to add my own parts to an Eagle library, including designing some packages. I’ve been using the Pad button to add pads to the packages, and when I started, I assumed that adding a pad would also put the appropriately placed drill hole into the package. But that assumption is based on exactly nothing, so - do I need to add the drill holes myself when I put down pads for a through-the-hold part?
Holes are part of the pad. You don’t need to drop a hole on the circle of the pad to get a hole there.
SMD’s are the exception of course.
Thanks.
It occurred to me after sending that post that I could just run the CAM job and look at the Gerbers to make sure that the holes are there. I’ll keep that in mind for the next time I have this kind of question.
Gerbers shouldn’t have holes, most manufacturers either complain about them or ignore them. They should be defined in the separate Excellon drill file.
My mistake - I of course meant in the drill file produced by the CAM job.
