Eagle dimensions tool?

Does it have one? I hate guessing with the grid squares. Im after something where I can click and pull the dimensions out(like when labling pins.)

Cheers, Phil

You can click the Info button in the toolbar to the right, then click the line that you want to measure. A dialog will appear with information about the line you selected, including the length.

Thank you

Thats not really a "Dimension tool" though, handy if you want to know the origin of an IC from the boards origin or length of a line but to find out other features of an IC, you'd have to load the library and work them out from there...

When I wanted the relevant dimensions for an Arduino shield I imported the Arduino Eagle files into the Pulsonix software I use and got them that way. It was far easier than trying to work out how to do it in Eagle. I supplied my dimensioned Arduino image to an Eagle user who was having problems, the other day.

Leon, thats why I wanted the dimesion tool :), thought it would be handy to have. Hopefully Farnell with kick Eagle into touch, I dont have time to learn another package at the moment.

There must be a way to do it. You could try the Eagle forums.

Maybe I’m not certain what exactly you are looking for, but why not the Mark tool? Looks like a little x/y grid at the top of the tool bar.

I think he wants to do something like this:

It’s the aforementioned dimensioned Arduino layout I created from the original Eagle files.

Thats exactly what I need

I had a quick look through the Eagle docs and the supplied ULPs, but couldn’t find anything. Perhaps people convert their layouts into DXF files and use AutoCAD.

adimv4_0mm.ulp

It might be easier and better to get Leon to do it for you.

I was thinking of offering. OTOH, Phil could download the Pulsonix demo and do it himself. It’s limited to 100 pins, so he wouldn’t be able to save the result, but he should be able to save the image or print it.

what about Eagle Power Tools?

I see it has some dimension tools.

The pulsonix demo idea is good, Im turning out a couple of boards a day and could do with the measurements, even if its just an image. It’ll sure make getting enclosures made much easier

PM me if you have problems, or join my Pulsonix group:

People there would find the concept of importing Eagle designs into PSX to dimension them somewhat amusing. Perhaps I should suggest it on the CADsoft forum.

You can always use those tools that were mentioned to export a DXF file and get the dimensions off that with a drawing package.

I didn't think you could use the ULP's with the "Power Tools" unregistered demo version?...

Eagle sucks for any type of intricate dimensional work, therefore I always cad my board dimensions/outline up using my preferred cad drawing package, save it as a DXF file, then import into Eagle using a DXF ulp. The best one for doing this dxf2scr (very simply & easy to use) it’s here ftp://ftp.cadsoft.de/eagle/userfiles/misc/dxf2scr.zip

It converts your saved DXF to an Eagle script - once you’ve run it & saved it as an scr file, in the Eagle board view, simply go ’ File’ - ‘Script’ - browse to your saved scr file - click ‘ok’ …job done! Intricateboard-tatstic.

Thanks for sharing
