Eagle Sharing Site

Hello,

NextFab Studio (http://www.NextFabStudio.com) is starting an Eagle component and library site using Drupal. While it is not live yet, we are looking for any broad suggestions as well as some suggestions/comments/ideas for:

  • • A name

    • A logo

    • The naming and organization of components (currently, we are thinking of a few drop down menus/tag clouds that allow users to define a component by i.e. component, type, value, maker, drawing version number, username, time, date and generate a name. An example of a name in this configuration would be Capacitor,EF_Tantalum,22uF16VDC,Panasonic,V1.0,1394,12:27:35,1-21-2010)

    • We were also going to try to use only single component libraries to allow people to sort all of the components on the site, as it tends to be more useful to share, comment, and edit individual components rather than entire libraries.

  • We hope that this site will be both time saving and useful for people all over the world.

    Thanks,

    Aedhan Loomis

    Will this be free?

Single component libraries…hrm. Not liking it. A lot of parts come from a “family” and work well bundled together. Can you imagine scraping together an AVR library like this? Every symbol would look different, people would make different choices on drawing the package, they might completely ignore packages that they aren’t using instead of including the variants.

Next…Cadsoft already has a place where people can upload their libraries. A few other sites (adafruit, for example) are using software repositories to manage a community library easily.

Finally, you are building an component library organization site. You are asking for a name, a logo, and a plan for organizing everything…what’s left for you to do?
