Easydriver board plus controller?

Hello,

I am controlling a stepper motor via an Arduino Duemilanove. I am using the EasyDriver board. Is there a board out there were I can send 1 signal out to the board it will rotate at a specified speed and/or will spin a specified amount of rotations? I would like to free up the Arduino to do other things while the stepper motor is operating. Do I need to use a controller board along with the EasyDriver board in order to do this?

Thanks,

Ren,

Yes, currently you need a controller board to generate the pulses to the EasyDriver (or you could use a 555 timer or some such).

However, shortly (don’t hold me to it - probably before May is out) I’ll be releasing an updated version of this board that will allow you to do just what you want (and more). http://schmalzhaus.com/EBB/

Brian,

Thanks for the reply. I look forward to seeing that new board. In the meantime I will look into the 555 timer.

StepperBoard is a controller and driver that accepts serial commands (both RS232 level and a microcontroller’s 5 V) for acceleration, movement, etc and has some external enable run/stop type of control as well.
