EasyDriver - Closed Loop Gear Stepper driving too slow

Hi, my question is two parts. I’m trying to drive a NEMA 11 Closed loop stepper motor with a 51:1 gear reduction with the EasyDriver. We have tried running the motor at a few different voltages, ranging from 5V to 24V. For all these voltage levels, the output of the motor was very slow, about 4rpm. We would need something 5 times faster for our application. my question is:

  1. Can the EasyDriver drive a closed loop stepper motor (bipolar) correctly, or will we need to source another driver?

  2. How can we increase the output speed of the motor? Is it possible that this is the max speed of our motor with the gear reduction (I thought steppers were supposed to be much faster than that)? Thanks!

Easydriver works with any bipolar stepper that needs 700mA of current or less. As long as your motor doesn't need more than 700mA per coil it should work.

You would need to send it steps faster to make the motor speed increase. You could also try changing the drivers step size to full step, that would increase the speed about 8x over the drivers default configuration.
