ESP-01 and ESP-32 with html code examples

I’m retired, a veteran and trying to stay relevant. I’ve done tons of simple programming for Arduino. My current learning activity is being more literate with IoTs. I finally got the ESP-01 and -32 running by putting info in ThingSpeak. My issue is being more knowledgeable in html with respect to reading and writing to these devices. Can anyone suggest a book at an elementary level to allow me to fully understand my task? I hate not knowing what I’m coding. Be kind, I’m learning. Even better, I’m trying.

I’d sort of suggest taking a look at https://html.com/ although I haven’t done much more than glance at the current version of their website. FWIW, I first used HTML 2 in the early 90s when I was asked to write a program to extract chapter headings from a word processor file and create a web page with them. (I believe that HTML 5.3 is “current”.)

I’m finding a lot of level 1 stuff but anything more than that is tough to find. I’m not against learning but I have to see the rocks under the water. I’m supposed to be handy but I also need suggestions.
