ESP32 Thing Plus Power Noise

I have an ESP32 Thing Plus with 2 piezo discs attached to an amplifier to sense vibration. I have everything working perfectly when powering from USB attached to my laptop. When I attach the USB cable to a 5V USB power supply and plug it in I am getting a bunch of noise, I guess. The sensors trigger constantly. If I turn down the sensitivity I can make them trigger by putting my hand close to the sensor wires.

Can anyone think of why the laptop would work and the power supply block would not.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Dan.

It sounds like your circuit is prone to interference from a noisy power source. My guess would be that your charger is probably designed for a much larger load than you’re applying and is having trouble regulating. That would cause it to produce “dirty” power that has a lot of noise in it.

You could try putting a 0.1 and 100uF capacitor across the VUSB and GND pins to see if that helps, but you may need a different power source.
