Hello,
Olimex says that AVR-JTAG supports firmware upgrades via AVRStudio, but in reality the firmware upgrade of a AVR-JTAG is too often a big mess. This time I have an AVR-JTAG that shows the red light when I switch the power on, but when I connect to AVRStudio 4.12 SP1 (build 462), it requires a firmware upgrade to continue, the upgrade fails and the AVR-JTAG remains seemingly dead. However, when I put power off and back on, the red light shines again and the situation continues the same.
…Some time when I had a problem with the upgrade, I tried different things such as flashing in an old firmware version and then again the new version etc and, ultimately, I got it working!
Would it be possible for Olimex or someone to arrange a web page that would thoroughly deal with upgrade issues and possible solutions? That could help avoid overlapping work in working on the same problems again and again.
When I do a firmware upgrade, I have the AVR-JTAG connected to one of our circuit boards, which are not any of these usual commercial test boards. In this respect my situation may differ from other users, perhaps it explains some of my problems.
…What are the recommended JTAG pin values for the most certain success with upgrade? Should I connect only ground (pins 2 and 10) and Vcc (7) and leave all others unconnected or what do you recommend? I am referring to the pin layout in the picture below (taken from http://www.olimex.com/dev/images/avr-jtag.gif).
Thanks for any help you can provide.
