Flat DC Motor for Fan

Hi there,

I’m looking for a motor comparable to the Hobby Motor you can buy on Sparkfun, or those which are in typical mini electric fans. But, I also need it to be as slim as possible. By slim, I mean the distance between the front side, where the shaft is, and the opposing back side. I want to power a small fan with 3V.

I know there are those slimmer hobby motors (something like this: http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00HK85 … UTF8&psc=1), but I can’t find those anywhere (except this one, but I’m afraid it may not be strong/fast enough) and have no idea whether they have a name of their own.

Do you have any ideas, advice or product suggestions?

Thank you so much, I hope this isn’t the wrong forum,

— Maxi

Why build this, just buy one of the small fans.

These use a BLDC motor and is build onto a pcb within the fan. Pull one apart to see how it is built.

Sorry, I didn’t mean those cooler fans you find in PCs. I meant those cheap hand fans you get everywhere. Something like this: http://img.hisupplier.com/var/userImage … 556526.jpg

Those fans use a very cheap brushed motor (I can see it through the plastic).

Car stereos with CD drives have small, flat motors and much of the circuitry is 3V. The “main” motor accelerates the CD pretty quickly, but I don’t know the power there.

Old computer CD drives may have a similar motor.
