Flea-Scope (potential/hopeful new SparkFun product!)

Dear SparkFun,

I have developed a 1" x 2.4" USB oscilloscope (and 9-channel digital logic analyzer) that runs at 18 million samples-per-second and can be built for $18!

Basically, it’s a brand new PIC32 microcontroller running fast interleaved ADCs with a USB interface on one side and a BNC connector on the other! It can be directly controlled by any Chromium-based web browser running on a PC or tablet or phone (!!!) and requires no other software install. It is compatible with x1 and x10 oscilloscope probes.

My dream is to have this built in quantity and get it into the hands of students and hobbyists who don’t otherwise have any cheap or easy (or high quality!) options to make these kinds of measurements today.

This thing “just works” and is trivial to use – just connect it to your computer or tablet or phone (!!!) using USB and open a web-page and you are up and running, displaying both analog waveforms coming into a BNC connector and digital waveforms coming into a 0.1" header pin strip!

(As an aside, you can also take one of these and log into it interactively using a different web-page, and it has a built-in operating system running on the PIC32 that you can log into, manipulate 18 user-defined pins including I2C and SPI, write programs for, save them in an internal flash filesystem, debug them interactively, and even configure them to auto-run on boot if you desire – it can even plug into a solderless breadboard – all without any other hardware or software other than the web-page – it is so much more than just an oscilloscope!!!)

You can see preliminary documentation here: https://rtestardi.github.io/usbte/flea-scope.pdf

Might you be interested in partnering with me to get this into the hands of students and hobbyists?

Thank you for your consideration!

I passed this along to our Product Dev team; I’ll let you know what shakes out!

Thank you! I didn’t see your reply until just now and I actually also submitted the pitch to widgets e-mail, as someone else instructed me to. Here’s hoping for a good outcome – I have prototypes (understatement) ready to share as soon as someone wants them – I believe everything is done and working (well, enough for rev 1 – I also have a dozen enhancements on my list already which I’m working on at the same time – just today I added the ability for multiple flea-scopes to trigger together, in case anyone needed more than 1 analog channel, or more than 9 digital channels!).

And I have the BOM down to $13!

And I added a 15 minute video introduction here so you can see Flea-Scope in action: https://1drv.ms/v/s!An6qoNgNXmeQhadIj1l … Q?e=Q0UZW3
