Gator:log not working

I can not get the gator log to work. I have tried 2 separate gator V2 boards, 2 gator logs, and 3 different micro sd cards. All sd cards are formatted FAT32. No matter what I try I only see the st1 light blinking blue 3 times. I am using the code supplied on the gator log hookup tutorial. Two of three sd cards are the Kingston sd cards listed in the tutorial. I also hear a high pitched whining noise while the gator:log is hooked up. I am at a loss as to how to troubleshoot this.

Hi krobinsonbds.

Three blinks indicates a problem initializing the SD card.

What size cards are you using and how are you formatting them?

I’d suggest using the SD Card Associations formatting utility found below to format your cards and then giving it another go.

  • - [https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter/](https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter/)
  • If you’re still getting the three blinks after using the utility, please send some photos showing your setup and we can dig further into this.

I tried reformatting the cards with the Sd card formatter, but no luck. Blinks green briefly then 3 blue blinks. Getting an error on uploading images to this reply. Can I not upload jpgs?

Sharing the images rather than uploading

    Hi krobinsonbds.

Thanks for sharing those photos. You should be able to upload them but it appears something broke on our end and uploading images isn’t working at the moment.

Where did you get your SD cards from? The Kingston ones we tested are the ones we actually carry. (16GB and 32GB) We haven’t carried a 8GB card for years and have not tested those. There are a lot of fake SD cards on the market and I can’t rule out you having bad cards. If you’re able to get a hold of a brand new card purchased from a reputable dealer, (Not online, at a store like Best Buy or Walmart) you might give that a try. If you have friends that have cards, give a few of those a try.

If none of them are working, send me a PM with your SparkFun order number and I’ll have a look here to see what options we may have for you.

    Chris,

Purchased a SD card from staples and it worked. Thank you for your help.

    Glad you got things working!

    Have an awesome weekend.

I have the same problem with a sandisk 32 gb - bought from a store just yesterday. Can’t get it to initialize in gator:log. I have tried a couple of the basic trials you have in the hook-up guides…

Is SanDisk a no go card?

    I have tried formatting 32FAT

and afterwards following this tutorial for the openLog, wich creates the config file he mentions and the log file - but nothing is written.

So it is possible to put data on the sd card - can there still be problems initializing for gator:log?

    Best regards

If you’re finding a config file on your SD card, the Gator:log is seeing the card and able to write data to it.

Please verify that your host device is actually sending serial data at the correct baud rate.
