I want to use the subject GPS for location input to a VHF radio. The radio requires 4,800 baud and NMEA-0183 input. The spec sheet indicates that these are optional. How does I set them to be the selected values?
Hi eprman,
Since the GPS-Mouse uses the UBX/u-blox 8 protocol, you can easily configure the baud rate (along with a host of other options) using the U-Center Software from u-blox. We have a brief tutorial for our RTK GPS Modules [here that will go over the basics of that software.
All you will need is something to go from Serial TTL to USB like one of our [FTDI Basic Breakouts or [Serial Basic boards to connect to the serial lines on the GPS Mouse. From there, just open up U-Center and connect to the COM/Serial port of your USB device and go to the configuration options we discuss in the tutorial linked above and navigate to the UART port. Select 4800 and send the message and after closing that window (make sure to save the message) the GPS Mouse will have switched from 9600 to 4800. It will write that to non-volatile memory so it will save the setting through power cycles.
If you are not sure which wires are which, they are outlined in both the [datasheet and our [GP-808G Hookup Guide.
I hope this helps you get started using this GPS module with your VHF Radio. If you have any other questions about the GP-808G, please reply to this post and I would be happy to help.](https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/gps-mouse---gp-808g-hookup-guide)](https://cdn.sparkfun.com/assets/learn_tutorials/5/7/1/GPM-808G--UAV_GNSS_receiver_ublox8030_QMC5883.pdf)](https://www.sparkfun.com/products/14050)](https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9716)](https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/getting-started-with-u-center)
