I originally purchased this antenna for the GPS receiver: GPS/GNSS Magnetic Mount Antenna - 3m (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/14986), however I am unable to get a fix, so I am looking at a different antenna, the Molex Flexible GNSS Antenna - U.FL (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/15246), however I was wondering if it is known that this antenna is compatible with the MAX-8Q series.
Also, is there any special circuitry that I need to integrate the antenna with my receiver, I assumed it was just adding a U.FL connector to my PCB attached to the receiver ANT pin.
I don’t see why either wouldn’t work but the magnetic mount antenna has a pre-amp in it that requires power to function. There should be information in the documentation for your receiver that shows how to supply power over the same cable as the antenna. It usually involves a band pass filter and a way to block DC from getting back into the receiver as well as impedance matching.
Thank you for your response. When the board was designed, I don’t believer power was supplied, there is certainly no band pass filter in place. I’ll try the flexible antenna and hope that works with my design.
