Has anyone here used a gps over 18 km or so in a weather balloon. I’ve heard that some models (Telit GM862) have issues with this.
I got the same problem. Lauched a balloon day befor and the GPS stopped working at 18km…
Do you have some more information or did you find one?
Thx

It’s not an “issue”, its a limitation/restriction hard coded into the GPS chipset to prevent people making their own missile systems.
There is two limitations, a speed and a height one, break either and you loose GPS data.
If the GPS has this restriction (and nearly all (not super expensive) modules do), there is no way to turn it off, it is hard coded, otherwise what would be the point.
You need to look into what systems people doing this same sort of thing have used.
The gps units that still work are the ones that “AND” the speed and altitude, instead of "OR"ing. [These folks were on the Sparkfun news page not too long ago. They use the Lassen iQ for their project.](Introduction – The Icarus Project)
