GPS backup button battery safe for high-altitude balloon?

Hello

I’m planning on using the SAM-M8Q breakout board on a high-altitude balloon. Does anyone know if the included lithium button battery should remain leak-free at low pressure? I’m guessing so long as there’s no trapped gas inside it should be OK but would be grateful for anyone’s experience.

If it needs removing, is that possible (I think it’s just a friction fit?). I’m not going to go poking it with a screwdriver. The integration manual says V_BCKP should be tied to VCC_IO if no battery present. Looking at the schematics it seems this would still be the case if it’s removed, albeit through a 3.3k resistor. Since it only switches to V_BCKP when VCC_IO is powered-down anyway, it seems the connection to VCC_IO is more to prevent glitches/floating than actually power anything anyway? So - I can just remove the battery and it’ll be fine (just always cold-start)?

Matt

Battery will be fine at low (or no) pressure.
