GPS Connector Cable

Hello,

I’m just kind of going out on a limb here and hoping that someone experienced in sourcing parts can come along and help me out…

I just recently purchased a GPS module direct from USGlobalSat (ET-332) that has a 12 conductor (2x6) .05"x.05" male header on it. The header is standard break-away through-hole pin header, just half the normal pitch. To interface to this board, I thought I’d get another male header of the same pitch and find a 2x6 .05"x.05" ribbon cable with 2 female ends to jump between the two boards.

The problem I’m having is that I can’t find a usable cable anywhere. I’ve been searching for a few weeks now for a working solution, and I’ve come up empty handed. So my question is - where can I find either a pre-made cable, or a custom cable assembly that will work in this situation?

Thanks in advance, and sorry if this should be posted elsewhere.

first off - what is special about that specific GPS? Besides being SIRF III, does it have any outstanding features that I’m missing?

Second off - I’ve found usglobalsat to be quite responsive to customer requests. I would reccomend e-mailing them and asking them about the connector - I expect they will be quite helpful.

Sorry for the late reply…

The physical characteristics of that unit along with its power consumption fit the bill for a telemetry project that I’m working on. Really, there’s nothing special about it other than what you just said.

About the cable, I called USGlobalSat; I probably should’ve mentioned that in the original post. No cables. No DigiKey part number for a cable, either. They supply cables to some of their other units, but unfortunately those units don’t meet my specifications.

I think I found a suitable solution, though. It’s not the best, but it’ll have to do. In the long term, I think I’ll be contacting MillMax, or another distributor of custom milled connectors to make up a bunch of cable assemblies for me.

It’s funny, because I was originally going for a PG31 from Laipac, but I found their documentation and technical support turnaround time to be quite intollerable. USGlobalSat’s technical support turnaround is great, and their documentation is far better than Laipac’s, but unfortunately it’s still a bit lacking. It’s not so bad that I can’t integrate the module, but I think they’ve still got a bit of work to do in their datasheet.

Thanks for the reply!

I worked with http://www.cmacable.com through the entire process of modifying my ATV. They have A+ customer service and an excellent line of cable and restraints. If you are looking for a custom cable assembly cma is the way to go!
