Hello everyone. I recently bought a GPS -19984. The first issue is that it does not show the “Ortometirc Height” and only calculates Ellipsoidal.
The second issue is whether anyone knows the best NTRIP in Japan.
If you look at NMEA sentences (GGA), you will get the elevation above sea level but also the difference between sea level and ellipsoid used for the conversion from orthometric height to altitude. By subtraction, you can go back to orthometric height.
Thank you so much, dear Eric. I know and I calculated using a Python code. But as I watched the company’s videos on YouTube he showed that Ortho height but in my case it shows a (-) mark. The equipment does not show that?
That is strange.
Can you confirm the GGA sentence includes the Geoid Height as per Eric’s response?
If the Facet is outputting the Geoid Height in the GGA sentence, then it would appear to be a SW Maps issue ? The opposite could imply a Geoid issue inside the F9P.
Are you attempting to use a Custom Geoid File in SW Maps by chance ?
Thank you so much for the reply. Where can I see if the Facet shows the Geoid Height?
I am not using any Geoid file in the app. I attached the app’s setting
What other ‘instrument model’ options are listed?
Watch the NMEA stream for GGA sentences.
Thank you so much for your time. How can I see this table you shared? Sorry for the many simple questions, I am a beginner. I just export from SW map which is again no Ortho height!
I inserted an SD card on the GPS torch but does not record anything.
Update: It seems that the problem is Android SW app. I used the IOS version and it works.
Thank you so much everyone for your effort.
Hello, I use SW Maps for Android and the orthometric height is given depending on the geoid model used in your region, in my case I use EGM96 or EGM08, for this you must upload a .gtx file with the required model
Could you please help me how can I upload this file? When I open the Geoid File in the setting, the only option is None! As I’m living in Japan, I wanna use Japan_geoid. I have both iOS and android app.
You can download the .gtx file for Japan from this page
and you copy the file into the folder
Android/media/np.com.softwel.swmaps/Geoids
Once you have copied the file, you can choose in the SW Maps options
I don’t know about the best NTRIP in Japan, but I do have a resource that will be helpful for researching that: A portal to NTRIP providers around the world - NTRIP-list
